The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was not only the bearer of the message but a heart overflowing with mercy and a mind illuminated with wisdom. Every step of his dawah reflected the teachings of the Quran, making people feel that this religion is a light guiding them to peace.
A Universal Message Rooted in Mercy
Allah said:
"And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds."
(Quran 21:107)
From the first day he called people to Tawheed (monotheism), his goal was not to impose, but to rescue hearts from darkness to light. When his dawah began in secret, his first priority was to nurture faith gently before facing challenges openly.
Gradual and Wise Approach
The Prophet’s method was gradual:
He began by calling to Tawheed and rejecting idolatry.
He focused on purifying character, honesty, and integrity.
After migrating to Madinah, the detailed laws were revealed.
This teaches us that transforming minds and hearts takes time, patience, and wisdom.
Unbreakable Patience in the Face of Harm
For 13 years in Makkah, he called people day and night, enduring ridicule and persecution. Even when the harm intensified—like the day of Ta’if—he raised his hands and prayed:
"O Allah, I complain to You of my weakness, my lack of resources, and my lowliness before people..."
But he did not ask for their destruction. He prayed for their guidance.
Forgiveness Toward Those Who Harmed Him
After the Conquest of Makkah, those who had driven him out and fought against his message stood before him defeated. Yet he ﷺ said to them:
"Go, for you are free."
This moment teaches us that dawah is built not on revenge but on forgiveness.
His Style of Dialogue
He listened more than he spoke.
He chose words that touched hearts.
He responded with wisdom suited to each person’s understanding.
He never embarrassed anyone in public.
Examples from His Dawah
1. Inviting the Youth:
Many of the first Muslims were young, like Ali ibn Abi Talib and Zaid ibn Harithah. The Prophet ﷺ empowered them to carry the message with confidence.
2. Inviting Non-Muslims:
When the delegation of the Christians of Najran came, he welcomed them into the mosque and engaged them in respectful dialogue.
3. Inviting Close Family:
He began by calling his own relatives, obeying Allah’s command:
"And warn your closest kindred."
(Quran 26:214)
Lessons to Inspire
Dawah starts from the heart: sincerity and pure intention.
Gentleness and kindness open hearts.
Patience is the fuel that sustains the caller to Islam.
Complete trust in Allah is the source of strength and success.
The Quran is the guide for every word and every step of dawah.
Questions to Reflect On
Do we treat people with gentleness and mercy as the Prophet ﷺ did?
Are we patient when our dawah is met with rejection or delay?
Do we raise our children on the ethics of patience and compassion?
Do we remind ourselves that guidance belongs to Allah alone?
