Who Was Ubayy ibn Ka'b?
Ubayy ibn Ka'b ibn Qays al-Ansari was one of the most prominent companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
He was among the first six companions to compile and memorize the entire Quran during the Prophet’s lifetime.
A scribe of the Divine Revelation, Ubayy participated in the Second Pledge of Aqabah, the Battle of Badr, and all the major events in Islamic history.
The Prophet ﷺ once said to him:
> "O Ubayy, Allah has commanded me to recite the Quran to you."
Ubayy asked in awe, "Did Allah mention me by name?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Yes."
Ubayy wept out of gratitude and humility.
The Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab later declared:
"The most knowledgeable among us in Quran recitation is Ubayy."
