The Virtues of Reading the Qur’an & The Honor of Its Memorizers
The Qur’an is not merely words to be recited.
It is light, guidance, elevation,
and a direct connection between the servant and his Lord.
First: The Virtues of Reading the Qur’an
1) Multiplied Reward
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah will receive a good deed, and each good deed is multiplied by ten. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter, rather Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Mim is a letter.”
Every single letter carries reward.
And Allah multiplies for whom He wills.
2) The Qur’an as an Intercessor
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Recite the Qur’an, for it will come on the Day of Judgment as an intercessor for its companions.”
It will defend its reciter
and plead on his behalf.
3) Tranquility and Mercy
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“No people gather in a house of Allah, reciting the Book of Allah and studying it together, except that tranquility descends upon them…”
The Qur’an brings peace,
mercy, and divine closeness.
Second: The Honor of the Memorizer of the Qur’an
1) Elevation in Paradise
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: Recite and rise in status, and recite as you used to recite in the world, for your rank will be at the last verse you recite.”
Each verse = a higher degree.
Each memorized passage = elevation.
2) With the Noble Angels
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The one who is proficient in the Qur’an will be with the noble and righteous scribes (angels). And the one who recites the Qur’an and struggles with it, finding it difficult, will have two rewards.”
Explanation of the Hadith
“The one who is proficient”
means the person who has mastered its recitation and memorization.
“With the noble and righteous scribes”
refers to the angels—honored, elevated, and obedient servants of Allah.
This shows the immense honor of the skilled memorizer:
a rank of dignity and closeness similar in honor to the angels.
“And the one who struggles with it”
means the person who finds difficulty.
They receive:
One reward for recitation
One reward for the effort and struggle
So no one should feel discouraged.
3) The People of the Qur’an Are the People of Allah
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Indeed, Allah has people among mankind.”
They asked, “Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?”
He said, “The people of the Qur’an are the people of Allah and His special ones.”
This is a title of honor and distinction.
