Laylat Al-Qadr: The Night That Can Change Your Destiny
In the most blessed days of Ramadan, within the final ten nights, comes a night that Muslims around the world eagerly seek every year: Laylat Al-Qadr (The Night of Decree).
It is not an ordinary night. Allah describes it in the Quran as a night greater than any other.
Allah says:
“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.”
This means that worship performed during this single night is better than worship performed for more than eighty-three years.
For this reason, the Prophet ﷺ would increase his worship during the last ten nights of Ramadan, seeking this blessed night.
Why Is Laylat Al-Qadr So Special?
Laylat Al-Qadr is not only a night of great reward; it is also a night filled with divine mercy and blessings.
Allah says in the Quran:
“The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter.”
This means that the angels descend to the earth in great numbers during this night, bringing peace, mercy, and blessings to the believers.
Allah also says:
“Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.”
The entire night is filled with tranquility, mercy, and spiritual peace.
When Does Laylat Al-Qadr Occur?
Allah concealed the exact timing of Laylat Al-Qadr so that Muslims would strive in worship throughout all of the last ten nights.
However, the Prophet ﷺ indicated that it is most likely found during the odd nights of the last ten days:
The 21st night
The 23rd night
The 25th night
The 27th night
The 29th night
Because of this, the companions of the Prophet would increase their worship during all of these nights.
What Should We Do on Laylat Al-Qadr?
There are many acts of worship that bring immense rewards during this blessed night.
1. Perform Night Prayer
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever stands in prayer during Laylat Al-Qadr with faith and seeking reward will have all their past sins forgiven.”
Even if the prayer is simple:
Pray two units of prayer
Recite from the Quran
Lengthen your prostration and supplication
2. Recite the Quran
Laylat Al-Qadr is the night when the Quran was first revealed.
Allah says:
“Indeed, We sent it down during the Night of Decree.”
For this reason, one of the best acts of worship during this night is to engage with the Quran through:
Recitation
Reflection
Memorization
Or learning the rules of proper recitation.
3. Make Supplication (Du'a)
One of the best supplications for Laylat Al-Qadr was taught by the Prophet ﷺ to Aisha (RA):
(O Allah, You are Most Forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me.)
Repeat this supplication often during the night.
4. Increase Dhikr and Istighfar
Increase the remembrance of Allah:
SubhanAllah
Alhamdulillah
La ilaha illa Allah
Allahu Akbar
Astaghfirullah
Small acts of remembrance during this night may bring rewards that last a lifetime.
Laylat Al-Qadr: A New Beginning with the Quran
One of the most beautiful things a Muslim can do on this night is to renew their relationship with the Quran.
Instead of letting the Quran be something we only read occasionally during Ramadan, Laylat Al-Qadr can be the beginning of a lifelong connection with the Book of Allah.
Through Madrasat Al-Quran, students can:
Learn to read the Quran correctly
Master the rules of Tajweed
Memorize the Quran through structured programs
Study with qualified teachers through one-on-one online classes
So that the Quran becomes part of daily life, not only during Ramadan.
Do Not Miss This Night
Laylat Al-Qadr may come only once each year.
And it may be the night that changes your life forever.
Do not let it pass like any ordinary night.
Pray.
Recite the Quran.
Make sincere du'a.
Perhaps it will be the night of forgiveness, mercy, and a new beginning with the Quran.
